Church of St. Francis of Assisi
The parish church of st. Francis of Assisi is located in the heart of Lipik and is the only parish in Požega County dedicated to this humble saint. His feast in the parish is solemnly celebrated on October 4th. This baroque church that was built at the end of the 18th century was destroyed and burned in the Homeland War.
After the war, a statue of Our Lady of Fatima was found undamaged and completely preserved under the ruins of the church. The statue was procured in Fatima by a former parish priest Tomo Sruk. In honor of Our Lady of Fatima during the month of October, believers gather every night to pray the rosary at her statue, which is nowadays exposed at the church. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima is celebrated in the parish on 13 October.
Next to the church is a completely restored bell tower with 7 floors. Within the bell tower you can explore the history of the City of Lipik with a focus on the devastation during the Homeland War and later reconstruction.
The LCD TVs that are installed on all floors inside the bell tower show historical contents through 7 chapters: Lipik Baths, Lipik Park, Celebrities in Lipik, Visitors of Lipik Health Spa, Kursalon and Wandelbahn, Lipik in the Homeland War and Parish of St. Francis of Assisi.
The last floor of the bell tower is also a beautiful viewpoint overlooking Lipik from four sides of the world.
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy.
O divine master grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it’s in dying that we are born to eternal life
